SCHOOL ADAGE
When wealth is lost, nothing is lost; When health is lost, something is lost, When Character is lost, All is lost.
Article 1 NAME
The Association shall be called and addressed as “the Government Secondary School Owerri, Old Boys’ Association of Nigeria (2001-2007 Set)”.
Article 2 AIMS AND OBJECTIVE
The aims and objective of the Association shall be as follows;
i. To inculcate cordial relationship and mutual help among Old Boys of the Government Secondary School Owerri.
ii. To establish, foster and sustain the interest of all Old Boys of Government Secondary school Owerri in affairs of the Alma Mater.
iii. To sustain the school in its pre-eminent position in the country.
iv. To inculcate the spirit of pride among members in the affairs of the school.
v. To encourage social interaction among members in the affairs of the school.
vi. To maintain a good public image of members, the Association and School.
vii. To promote Nigerian Unity through the Association.
Article 3 MEMBERSHIP
(1) Membership shall be open to all 2001-2007 ex-students of the Government secondary School Owerri who completed a minimum of two (2) academic years in the school provided the person did not leave termination or expulsion.
Article 4 OFFICERS
The Association shall have the following officers who shall be elected annually.
i. PRESIDENT
ii. VICE-PRESIDENT
iii. SECRETARY GENERAL
iv. FINANCIAL SECRETARY
v. TREASURER
vi. PRO/PROVOST

Article 5
DUTIES OF OFFICERS OF THE ASSOCIATION
The duties of the officers of the Association shall be as follows;
A. PRESIDENT
i. He shall preside at all meetings of the Association.
ii. It is his responsibility to cause meetings to be summoned.
iii. He shall oversee all activities of the Association and give directives to the
executives.
iv. He shall be a co-signatory to the Association’s bank account.
v. He shall be responsible for appointment of committee members and present
them to the congregation for approval.
B. VICE-PRESIDENT
i. He shall deputize for the President in his absence.
ii. He shall preside over meetings in the absence of the president.
C. SECRETARY GENERAL
i. He shall be responsible for the correspondence of the Association.
ii. He shall summon meetings on the directive of the President.
iii. He shall record the minutes of the meetings.
iv. He shall be responsible for documents and records of the Association.
D. FINANCIAL SECRETARY
i. He shall keep records of all financial transactions of the Association.
ii. He shall hand over all funds of the Association in his possession to the treasurer
within 48 hours of receipt.
iii. He shall acknowledge all monies paid to the Association through issuance of
payment receipts.
iv. He shall prepare and present a written financial statement of the Association’s
account twice a year.

He shall receive all funds given to the financial secretary.
He shall keep the funds of the Association in the Association bank account within 48 hours of receipt.
He shall keep records of all monies handed over to him.
F. PRO/PROVOST
i. He shall publicize meeting venues, date and time at least 48 hours before the meeting.
ii. He shall publicize activities of the Association to members through phone calls, SMS or any of the social media platforms.
iii. He shall ensure there is orderliness during meetings.

Article 6
COMMITTEE
The committee members shall consist of at least 3 members of the Association and headed by a chairman. They shall be appointed by the executives and presented to the congress for approval/rejection.
Article 7
EMERGENCY MEETINGS
Emergency meetings shall be held when necessary.
Article 8 PATRONS
i. Patrons shall be appointed by the congress as and when necessary.
ii. Patrons shall be ex-students of the Government secondary School Owerri and must
have respectable integrity.
iii. The Patron shall advise, guide and assist the Association when necessary.
Article 9 FINANCE
A. The funds of the Association shall be derived from the following sources;
i. Registration fee of N500 per member.
ii. Annual fee of N1000 per member.
iii. Special levies.
iv. Fund raising activities.
v. Donations.
B. The funds of the Association shall be kept on an approved bank and may be invested in approved securities.
C. The funds of the Association may be granted for bursaries for indigent students or scholarships for the brilliant ones or any other approved purposes.
D. The account of the Association shall be operated by the President, Financial Secretary and Treasurer, provided the expenditure is authorized in writing by the President.

Article 10
WEDDINGS, CONDOLENCE AND BEREAVEMENT ENTITLEMENT

WEDDINGS
The Association shall attend the wedding and present financial support to the member
DEATH OF AN OLD BOY
The Association shall as quickly as possible publicize the dead member’s obituary. The Association shall undertake or commission a condolence visit to the deceased family within six weeks of the report with a purse.
C. BEREAVEMNT OF AN OLD BOY
i. An Old Boy shall be considered as bereaved when he suffers loss by death of his wife, child, mother, father or sibling.
ii. The Association shall attend the burial with a purse.
Article 11
GENERAL ELECTION
A. ELECTION
i. General election of officers shall be held once a year by open ballot.
ii. A member is deemed to have been elected into aan office by a simple majority of votes
cast.
iii. No member shall occupy a particular seat for more than two (2) terms consecutively
unless as determined by the general house.
B. QUALIFICATION
For a person to be eligible to be elected as an officer, such a person shall;

Not be found wanting in character.
Show active interest in activities concerning the Association. Must have attended minimum of 5 meetings in a year.
C. REMOVAL OF AN OFFICER
Any officer found to be ineffective in the discharge of his duties by way of absence from two (2) meetings consecutively without cogent excuse, refusal to carry out decisions of the executives and members, abandonment of duties if reported shall be;
i. Be asked to show cause in writing during the next meeting.
ii. If found wanting, be removed by a simple majority vote at the meeting.
D. VACANCY
Any vacancy by resignation, removal, death or any reasonable cause shall be filled by a ye election or nomination and unanimous approval of the association at a general meeting.

Article 12
AMENDMENTS OF CONSTITUTION
A. Amendments to these rules and regulations, ninety (90) days written notice of the desired amendments shall be filed with the Secretary General who shall circulate this to members. B. Theamendmentsshallbepassediftwo-thirdsmajorityofmemberspresentatameetingor
an emergency meeting summoned for that purpose approved.
Article 13
GENERAL
The Association shall carry out or undertake any activity or scheme designed to promote its objectives and may acquire and dispose of any other property in furtherance of its objectives.
